Ogyen Trinley Dorje is a Tibetan Buddhist leader (of a different sect to the Dalai Lama) who whilst growing up and being immersed in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition still remains a fan of "in the moment" western culture. In fact he’s gone on record as a fan of the supposed cathartic properties of computer video games.
He is quoted as having remarked that he can find them a form of temporary relief ,particuarly so when he is having negative thoughts or feelings and having played them has a therapeutic sense of calm in the aftermath.
Not being a fan of the games myself I feel unable to comment but having seen how they wind up for liitle reason their fans who twitch and gawp at a screen totally involved I would have thought as an activity it would almost definately fall in to the non-Buddhist category !
"Let’s be grateful for if today we didn't learn much , at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn this , at least we weren’t sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so lets all be grateful for our lives. " Buddha
