Zen Koan - When You Love, Love Openly

In a Buddhist monastery there were mostly monks and only one nun called Eshun and all were learning the art of Zen meditation from a learned master.

Though she was a nun in simple nun’s clothes and with a shaved head Eshun was very pretty. Some of the monks still beholden to earthly desire secretly fell in love with her. One of the monks unable to contain his feelings for any longer even wrote her a love letter and asked if he could meet her privately.

She didn’t send him a reply and the next day the whole monastery resumed a meeting with the Zen master. When that had finished Eshun stood up and turned to the monk who had written to her. “If you really do love me so much – then come and embrace me now”.
