Jesus and the Buddha were teachers of a world-subverting wisdom that undermined and challenged conventional ways of seeing and were of their time and also timeless. Their wisdom subverted the established truth and also provided an alternative wisdom: they taught their followers a way to transform their lives. And so we can say they were both teachers of the way less travelled.

Jesus: If anyone should strikes you on the cheek, offer them the other cheek .
Buddha: If anyone should give you a blow with his hand , stick, or knife, you should abandon any desires and utter no evil words.

  1. Also, there are around thirty or so 18th &19th cent. books covering the Buddhist sources to Christianity. Only two books argued for a Buddhist borrowing from Christianity (The Lotus Gospel& Wheat Among Tares, one author depends on other and they had only a fraction of Buddhist texts to work from, also there were several papers and short monographs writen by Christians who claimed Buddhists borrowed from Christianity.

In my book, Father and Son, East is West, I examine new and old sources. There can be no doubt of Jesus being a Jewish Buddha and my reading of the gospels has me firmly believe that Jesus is speaking of Buddha when he says Mo Pater (my father).

  2. The book, Buddha & Jesus: Could Solomon Be the Missing Link? offers yet another hypothesis. It proposes that the numerous similarities between the teachings of Jesus (30 CE) and the Buddha (525 BCE) may be largely due to their having a mutual predecessor, Solomon (950 BCE). The website, www.buddha-christ.info, provides excerpts from the book, published in July 2011.
