“They are not following dharma who resort to violence to achieve their purpose. But those who lead others through nonviolent means, knowing right and wrong, may be called guardians of the dharma.” Buddha
One day Burma will be free and the tyrannous military regime that has denied its people basic freedoms and any form of modest prosperity will be banished to the annals of sadly remembered history. Until then the people take hope and acceptance in the national religion Buddhism - it is probably because Buddhists eschew violence and seek peace that the regime has lasted so long .
Soon I hope to visit this beautiful country and see for myself its rich history, lovely people and profound Buddhist heritage.
The struggle for democracy and human rights in Burma is a struggle for life and dignity. It is a struggle that encompasses our political, social and economic aspirations. Aung San Suu Kyi
