Philippe Caland directs himself in Hollywood Buddha, a comedy about spirituality and show-business success. He is a movie producer who can’t sell his movie which was completed 5 years ago. He lives in a tent whilst his new luxury mansion is to be completed. In massive debt and unable to finish his projects he turns to Jim Stewart, a Buddhist spiritual advisor. He tells Philippe to buy a specific sculpture of the Buddha. Once he buys this Buddha statue, his luck begins to turn.
I have never heard of this and suspect it is another turkey that went straight to DVD. The movie review site Rotten Tomatoes awards it a damming 20% overall critic’s score.
At once a woefully over familiar bashing of Hollywood superficiality and a seemingly unwitting paean to the self-absorbed enlightenment that passes among industry folk for personal growth.
The following clip reveals the staggering ineptitude
of the movie which I now want to see !
